Das Museum (with English Version)
Die Koexistenz von Tradition und Moderne einer über 1000 Jahre alten Stadt zu verdeutlichen, wirtschaftliche, demographische und kulturhistorische entwicklungsgeschichtliche Aspekte zu beleuchten, ist Aufgabe der zeitgeschichtlichen Dauerausstellung des neuen Stadtmuseums Fürth Ludwig Erhard. Unter dem Titel "Treffpunkt Geschichte" entsteht eine lebendige Zeitreise durch Fürth, die nicht nur der neue Ort für die Vermittlung der Geschichte sein wird, sondern auch kommunikatives Zentrum der Auseinandersetzung.
Die historische Entwicklungsgeschichte des Ortes von der agrartypischen Gründungszeit über den Aufbau von Handwerk und Handel bis hin zur heutigen Situation einer modernen Industriestadt mit liberalen und kulturschaffenden Impulsen sowie der Tendenz zum wissenschaftlichen Strukturwandel wird in einer klaren Struktur als audio-visuelle und mediale Rezeption angeboten.
Zehn Bereiche bilden den Grundstein der chronologischen und inhaltlichen Ausrichtung des Museums, wobei über die Historie des alten Fürth, die Stadt- und Verkehrsentwicklung, das landschaftsgestalterische wie energetische Grüne Fürth, aber auch Sport und Geselligkeit der Bogen gespannt wird zur neueren Geschichte mit Nationalsozialismus und Wirtschaftswunder bis zum Übergang ins neue Jahrtausend. Als Rückrat und Roter Faden zieht sich die chronologische Geschichte der Stadt in Form einer visuellen Zeitreise durch die gesamte Ausstellung.
Wenn auch die Historie bis in frühe Zeiten dokumentiert wird, liegt der Fokus doch auf der Strukturgeschichte des 19. und 20. Jahrhunderts, der Phase der Stadtwerdung und des wirtschaftlichen Aufschwungs Fürths. Dabei spielt auch die Sozialgeschichte Fürths eine wichtige Rolle, die bei allen Themen Berücksichtigung findet. Diese Inhalte der Fürther Stadtgeschichte werden durch Originalexponate, Reproduktionen, Medieninstallationen und Sinnesstationen vermittelt.
Die mediale Vermittlung ist zentraler Bestandteil der Ausstellung und trägt einer modernen Rezeption des 21. Jahrhunderts Rechnung. Darüber hinaus ist ein in Vorbereitung befindliches "Learning Center" mit virtuellen Arbeitsplätzen ein weiterer Schwerpunkt für die Auseinandersetzung und weitere Beschäftigung mit den vermittelten Inhalten.

Meet History in Fürth — A Journey through Time
Living History
The Fürth municipal museum, Ludwig Erhard, which recently moved into the first floor of the former Otto school building, invites you on an interesting and informative journey through Fürth's past. A timeline highlighting significant events in the city’s history leads the visitor through the museum, revealing a collection of unique exhibits. Fascinating interactive media presentations and aroma samples augment the display of artifacts. The exhibition focuses on the city’s development from the first recorded permanent settlement to its economic rise; from a village of craftsmen to a modern industrial city.
City History
The municipal development of Fürth, from its founding to its partition between three rulers, from the Prussian reign to the receipt of the town charter within the kingdom of Bavaria, is documented in original exhibits and visual media. During the 19th century, Fürth rose in status to become an important industrial city, which can be seen in some magnificent buildings that have remained until today. The terror regime of National Socialism and the turmoil of war left their mark on the visual appearance of the city and annihilated Fürth's Jewish community. It wasn’t until the mood of post-war euphoria began to take hold that urban development received the needed impetus to profit from new industrial development. The establishment of new residential districts as well as improved infrastructure and sociopolitical development turned Fürth into an attractive modern city. Present-day Fürth is a versatile and enchanting municipality.
Economic History
Two large exhibition rooms record the remarkable economic development that transformed Fürth from its status as a rural market town into a city of industrial and commercial importance. A liberal attitude and cosmopolitan disposition, combined with a rejection of mandatory guild membership, helped facilitate the settlement of many divergent branches of industry. The Industrial Revolution brought with it globalization and prosperity. In particular, the manufacture of mirrors and the craft of metal-beating are symbolic of Fürth's economic boom. The Ludwig railway and the famous Adler heralded the development of functional transportation systems. Following the social upheaval and constraints of armed conflict, Fürth was able to reestablish its previous prosperity in the post-war era of the "Economic Miracle". Ludwig Erhard’s vision of the “social market economy” paved the way for rapid reconstruction. Entrepreneurs in Fürth like Grundig and Schickedanz made a significant contribution. Today, Fürth is a business location with further potential for the future.
Ludwig Erhard
A separate space in the museum is dedicated to its eponym, Ludwig Erhard. His achievement as "father of the economic miracle” and its significance for the German economy are presented by means of film. The exhibition portrays the relationship between the former German chancellor and the city of his birth, Fürth.
